Overview

Theoretical engineering calculations must eventually be proven by physical reality. A Load Test Certificate provides the ultimate empirical evidence that a crane, hoist, or lifting device can safely handle its rated capacity. Mandated by AS1418 and AS4991 during initial commissioning, following major structural repairs, or when re-rating equipment, load testing is a critical, high-risk procedure that demands expert oversight. Our chartered engineers meticulously plan and witness proof load tests, utilizing certified test weights or calibrated load cells. We push the equipment to its absolute design limits in a highly controlled environment, verifying that the structure does not permanently deform, that brakes hold securely under maximum stress, and that critical safety systems like Load Moment Indicators (LMIs) trigger accurately.

Executing a load test incorrectly can result in catastrophic equipment destruction or fatal accidents. We mitigate this by developing rigorous, site-specific test methodologies. We calculate the exact proof load required—often up to 125% of the Safe Working Load (SWL) depending on the applicable standard—and sequence the lifts to ensure maximum safety. During the test, we monitor structural deflection and mechanical performance. Following a successful test, the equipment is subjected to post-test Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to ensure the overload did not induce microscopic fatigue cracking.
